Senior Accountant
About Primordial Labs
We're building the next generation interface for commanding autonomous systems in the real world. Our core product, Anura, translates spoken or typed intent into structured actions across drones, sensors, and mission software—enabling faster, more intuitive control in high-stakes environments. We’re a distributed team of engineers, operators, and technologists focused on deploying reliable autonomy at the tactical edge.
The Opportunity
Primordial Labs is hiring a Senior Accountant to help build our accounting function as our company scales across the Department of War and commercial markets. You'll report to our Controller and own the day-to-day work that keeps our books accurate and audit-ready: the close, reconciliations, labor distributions, and accounting operations.
This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment. We’re looking for an ambitious person who wants to scale their career alongside our company. You'll see the full accounting picture, not one slice of it.
What You'll Do
Financial Reporting & Close:
Execute the month-end close, preparing journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules under U.S. GAAP.
Perform account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items for Controller review.
Run monthly DCAA-compliant labor distributions, making sure time is charged correctly to contracts, indirect accounts, and unallowable categories.
Prepare schedules and data for monthly reporting packages.
Identify opportunities to standardize and automate close tasks as the team scales.
Accounting Operations:
Manage day-to-day banking, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, timekeeping, expense reporting, and fixed assets.
Perform and document internal control activities, maintaining proper segregation of duties.
Review timesheets and expense reports for compliance, including identifying and segregating unallowable costs.
Serve as a power user of our accounting (QuickBooks) and timekeeping (Rippling) systems, and support the implementation of a fully integrated GovCon ERP.
Technical Accounting:
Apply the company's accounting policies consistently and raise unusual or complex transactions to the Controller.
Gather contract terms and supporting data for technical memos and revenue recognition (ASC 606) reviews.
Prepare supporting schedules for complex areas such as inventory, leases, and stock-based compensation.
Audit, Tax & Compliance:
Maintain audit schedules year-round and serve as a day-to-day contact for external auditors during fieldwork.
Provide data and schedules to our external tax firm for returns, provision, and credits.
Maintain multi-state registrations, sales and use tax filings, and 1099 reporting.
Support DCAA and DCMA requests and audits by preparing documentation and data as directed by the Controller.
Support the Finance Department in preparing data for indirect rate calculations and related filings.
About You
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
3 to 5 years of accounting experience in public accounting, industry, or both.
Hands-on experience with a financial close.
Experience supporting a financial statement audit.
Skills:
Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the full month-end close.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with QuickBooks or a similar accounting system.
A habit of using automation to remove manual work from daily accounting workflows.
Detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership over deadlines and accuracy.
Comfortable raising questions early and working closely with the Controller in a fully remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Active CPA license.
Experience in defense tech or at a venture-backed startup.
Experience with government contracting, including cost-type contracts, indirect rate structures, or incurred cost submissions.
Exposure to a GovCon ERP (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar).
Important Qualification Note: Due to the nature of our work and federal compliance requirements, this position strictly requires U.S. Citizenship and current residency within the United States. Please note that Permanent Residency (Green Card status) or visa sponsorship cannot satisfy these specific regulatory requirements.
